  E. W. Hayden. Born in Maine, December 22, 1834. When of age he went to
Wisconsin, and there was engaged in lumbering for eight years. In May, 1864, he
started for California across the plains and arrived at Novato, Marin county, on
November 4th of the same year, where he has since resided. Married August 27,
1870, Katie P. Johnson, a native of Maine, and has one child, Eva W.
