Publishers (1880) Richard R. Magee, Whose portrait will be found in this work, was born in County Donegal, Ireland, in the year 1819. In 1847, with his mother and sister, he left the green shores of the Emerald Isle for New Brunswick, but remaining only one month pushed his way to Boston, Mass., and there sojourned for a year and a half. In March, 1849, Mr. Magee arrived in San Francisco in the ship "Cordova," having made the passage round Cape Horn. His first venture was at the mines where he remained for seven months, when he came to Marin county. In 1857 he settled on his present place, located about one mile from Nicasio, where he has a farm of four hundred acres. Married, January 9, 1862, Mary E. Murray, who died March 27, 1875, leaving four children:—Mary T., Alice C, Richard J., and Thomas E.
