  Charles Martin. Was born in Switzerland, October 28, 1830. Came to America,
and California via the Isthmus, arriving in San Francisco June 15, 1852; then
went to the mines, and there remained for two years and a half, and then went to
Santa Cruz county, where he remained for about two years and a half; came to his
present ranch in Marin county in 1857. The ranch consists of one thousand five
hundred acres, where he is engaged in dairying. Married Catterina Traversi, a
native of Switzerland, on the 2d of September, 1862, by whom he has Adolphina,
Carmiglia, Anita, Charles, Arnoldo, Leopoldo and Ermelinda.
