  John Sedgwick. Born in England, September 16, 1837, and there received his
education and resided until 1863. In that year he went to Australia, where he
mined for four years, at the end of which time he came to California, and after
four years passed in Placer county, settled on his present dairy farm. Married,
October 3, 1875, Mary Sears, a native of Philadelphia.
