PERRY DIED HERE AT HIS HOME TUESDAY AT AGE OF 80. George W. Perry, a prominent pioneer of Mendocino county, passed away at his home on Redwood Highway, south of Ukiah, at six o’clock Tuesday evening last [March 23, 1943]. At his beside were his wife, Caroline C. Perry, and his three children, Mrs. May Remstedt, of Trinity county, Walter Perry, of Ukiah, and Willis Perry, of Briceland. His wants were constantly and carefully administered to by his faithful and loving family during his six weeks’ illness. The funeral was conducted at the Cleland-Schamber Chapel at two o’clock Friday afternoon [March 26]. The pallbearers were A.L. Tracy, A.R. Thomas, Frank Tolman, Bert Cole, Dr. J.H. Hansen and S. N. Jackson. Mr. Perry’s last resting place is a beautiful spot under a group of tall fir trees in Odd Fellows cemetery, Ukiah. George W. Perry was born at Albion, Mendocino county, August 24, 1862, and at the time of his death was 80 years, six months and 27 days old. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Perry and was one of six children, only one of whom, R.L. Perry, of Petaluma, survives him. Mr. Perry is descended from the earliest pioneer stock. His mother [Sarah Marie Wimmer] came with her parents [Peter L. Wimmer and step-mother Elizabeth Jane (Cloud) Baiz Wimmer] from Michigan across the plains in a wagon train to California in 1848 [1846 with the Harlan Party]. His father arrived with his family from Missouri in a covered wagon to California about the same time, and located at Coloma where gold was discovered in 1849 [1848]. His grandfather [Peter L. Wimmer] worked with James Marshall, building the mill for Sutter. George W. Perry and Caroline C. Mack were married at the Gorman Hotel in Mendocino, July 1, 1883. Mr. Perry managed the Cunningham & Thomas fruit drying yard 20 years. He leaves to mourn his loss his devoted wife and three children, 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
