Jerry died Tuesday April 3 at his home after a brief illness.  He was born March 18, 1923 and served as a Marine sergeant in World War II in the South Pacific from 1942 to 1946. He began his career with the Ukiah Police Dept. in April 1950 and rejoined the force in 1953 after a brief absence . He became a sergeant in 1956 and headed the detective unit until 1979 when he became a patrol sergeant.  He held the basic, intermediate, advanced and supervisory certificates from the California Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training.  He retired in 1977 and had driven a cab for the Mendocino Transit Authority since 1978.  He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Ransom of Ukiah; his daughter, Claudia Culver, son- in-law Russ Culver, and granddaughter Tracie Culver, all of Ukiah; and his sisters, June Ewing and Barbara Bakeman of Oakland.  Burial will be at Ukiah Cemetery.  Contributions to the American Cancer Society, the American Lung and American Heart Association.
