WIMMER. [portrait with caption "Eugene Delos Wimmer"] Heart trouble, following a lingering state of ill health attributed to the results of the bite of a pet monkey, about eight years ago, brought death at his home, last night at 8:15 to one of the most beloved citizens of Willits - Deed Wimmer, at the age of 47 years, three months and ten days. Funeral services will be held at the Methodist Church, on Friday, July 17, at 2 p.m. The ceremonies will be under the auspices of the Willits Lodge No. 365, F & A.M. The body will be transported to Oakland for cremation on Saturday, July the eighteenth. All arrangements are made by L. P. Anker, local funeral director and close friend of the deceased. Members of Lodge 365 F. & A.M. will assemble at the local Temple at 1:30 p.m. Eugene Delos Wimmer was born at Hanford [Kings County] on April 4th, 1884. The history of the Wimmer family dates back to the early days of the State of California. Deed's father [Elijah H.Wimmer] was one of the first settlers of Hanford, where he was engaged in the butcher business. Deed's grandfather was a meatdealer and after completing his education at Hanford, it was quite natural that Deed should follow in his father's footsteps, and enter the meat business also. In 1908 Deed purchased a butcher shop in Coalinga, ran it with unusual success for seven years, sold out and came to Willits. After entering the employ of the Little Lake Meat Company, he purchased the market two years later and conducted it from 1917 to 1921, when he sold it to Archie Jones. Then until 1923 he engaged in the whole-sale meat business, supplying Willits with a major portion of the meat consumed here. In connection with this enterprise he opened a slaughterhouse east of town. Early in 1923, Deed repurchased the Little Lake Market, and remained its owner until his death. The deceased was a Mason, and belonged to the Elks, the Eagles and the Knights of Pythias. He was well known and well liked. Many friends will mourn him and miss his broad smile and ready handshake. There are none residing in this city whose citizenship was more highly esteemed than his. Deed Wimmer is survived by his wife, Ethel. They were married 17 years ago, October 26, 1914. Two brothers, Jack of Los Gatos, and Chick of Burbank, California, and a sister, Mrs. Bessie Wicks of Los Angeles, are the other surviving relatives. All three are here for the funeral. Mrs. Jack Wimmer accompanied her husband to Willits." END Additional Comments: Willits News (Mendocino County, CA). July 17, 1931 (Friday). Eugene Delos "Deed" Wimmer was the son of Elijah H.
