Deed Wimmer, of Willits, Dies After Several Years of Illness from Infection. Deed [Eugene Delos] Wimmer died at his home near Willits, Tuesday evening, following a long illness, which was originally caused by his having been bitten by a monkey. Some years ago Wimmer had a tame monkey that ordinarily was a good natured and playful pet but on this occasion the simian became angry and bit him on the arm. In a short time his arm was badly swollen and at one time it was thought it would have to be amuptated. Ever since this unfortunate experience Wimmer has been ill, more or less, all of the time, and for several years now has not been able to attend to his business. Deed Wimmer was born at Hanford, [Kings County] California, April 4, 1884. He was decended from some of the first American settlers of California and his grandmother [Elizabeth Jane (Cloud) Baiz Wimmer] was present in the camp when John Marshall discovered gold at Colma [Coloma] in January, 1848. The following year the gold rush followed and Deed has told the writer tales of numerous adventures of his grandparents [Peter L. and Elizabeth Wimmer] during those stirring times, and which were told him by his grandmother when she was a very aged women [sic] and he a child. The deceased was brought up on a large cattle ranch in the San Joaquin valley and has followed the stock and butcher business all of his life. About 15 years ago Mr. and Mrs. Wimmer moved to Willits and he purchased the Little Lake Meat Market which he has conducted continuously since that date. He was a member of the Masonic and Elks fraternities and was a universal favorite on account of his genial and kindly nature."
