B. F. Studley finished haying last Monday. He cut this year about 550 tons. Sheriff Rachford, on the 20th inst., shot and instantly killed a half-breed at Eagleville, In Surprise valley. The fellow was a sneak-thief who had committed a robbery in Plumas county and resisted arrest by our Sheriff. Mrs. Jane Montgomery, mother of Mrs. Burgess and Mrs. Cooper of this place, started last Sunday morning for Wheatland, Yuba county, to remain permanently. She was accompanied by Miss Jennie Montgomery and the eldest and youngest children of Mr. and Mrs. Burgess. Miss Montgomery will visit in that county for a few weeks when she will return to her hone at Sierra city.
