BENJAMIN HITCHCOCK is one of the leading citizens of the Salinas valley, and is
a pioneer of California, having come to the State in 1855. The first years of
his residence on this coast were spent in the mines of Nevada county and
vicinity. He then engaged in dairying in Sonoma and Marin counties. Later he
farmed for C. S. Abbott until he purchased his present home, in 1872. His farm
comprises 200 acres of as fine land as can be found in the beautiful and fertile
Salinas valley.

  Mr. Hitchcock was married in Santa Cruz in the fall of 1872, to Miss Agnes M.,
daughter of John Abbott, and their union bas been blessed with a son and
daughter: Elba E. and Donna Laura. Mr. Hitchcock is a man of strict integrity
and temperate habits, and is held in high esteem by all who know him.
