A resident of southern Monterey county for the past 40 years, Andrew J[ackson] Harlan died at 8:15 o'clock Friday night in a local hospital after a short illness. Born in Iowa, March 10, 1861, Harlan had engaged in farming in the Parkfield district for many years and was one of the most prominent ranchers in that vicinity. He was aged 73 years, 5 months and 27 days at the time of his death. Surviving him are three daughters and one son, Mrs. David Semple [Nancy Semple] of Oakland, Mrs. Hazel Beets of Eureka, Mrs. Ray Goodwin [Margaret Goodwin] of Eureka and Andrew Harlan of Fortuna. The body has been removed to the Muller mortuary and funeral services will be held at 1:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon in Parkfield. Interment will be in the Parkfield cemetery."
