Nina May Harrison, lifelong resident in this community [King City] and member of a well-known family, passed away at 4 a.m. yesterday morning in a Salinas hospital. She had been a patient there for more than 11 years while the progressive stages of arthritis caused her to become more helpless. The funeral service for Miss Harrison will take place Saturday morning, at 10 a.m., in Grim's Chapel. The Reverend J. O. Richmond will officiate. La Posa Chapter, O.E.S., will conduct its customary service for deceased members, at the chapel, and will act in honorary capacity at the committal service. The late Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Harrison brought their family of May, Minnie, Fred and Wafford from Galva, Illinois, to Hollister to make a new home. Here were born Nellie, Ada, Howard and Ralph Harrison. A few years later the Harrisons moved to Hernandez to engage in farming. They knew the place through visits made to their son Wafford, who was by that time a grade school teacher at Hernandez. Their daughter Nina moved into town [King City] about 1890, following here her sister Minnie who had become Mrs. G. P. Henry. Miss Harrison opened a dress and millinery shop on Broadway, between First and Second street and successfully conducted the business for several years. Many a local matron remembers the fine dresses and hats created by the very pretty and gracious Miss Harrison who also was artistic. After she retired from business she lived on Lynn street in a home she had purchased, and remained there until she went to Salinas. Miss Harrison was a charter member of La Posa Chapter, O.E.S. Nina Harrison is survived by her sisters Mrs. Arthur Cowell of Sonoma; Mrs. Leroy Harlan of Riverdale and brothers Ralph Harrison, Greenfield and Howard Harrison, Hernandez.
