Sudden death terminated the life of Philip Wayne Henry Thursday afternoon [April 1] while he was at this work for the Peter J. Oosting plywood firm in Glendale [Los Angeles county]. According to his employer, who notified Harold Henry, brother of the deceased, he and Mr. Henry had dined together the evening before and had lunched together that very day. “Wayne did not complain of being ill and seemed to be in the best of health,” Oosting said. Mr. Henry had not been seen since his lunch and his body was found about three that afternoon in the firm lumber yard. Death is attributed to a heart attack. The burial rite was conducted last Monday afternoon [April 5] in the Ree C. Grim Chapel with the Reverend Everett Epperly officiating. Interment followed in the family plot in King City District Cemetery. The deceased, known as Wayne, to the community and countryside, left King City in 1939 for San Luis Obispo. An employee of Southern Pacific Milling Co. here, he worked in San Luis Obispo for the same firm. He left there nine years ago for the south and was in the wholesale lumber business for himself at Van Nuys. Later he sold the business and went to work with the Van Oosting firm. According to his employer, Wayne neve[r] missed a day of work and was a bundle of restless energy, driving himself some days from 4 in the morning til seven at night. Friends here remember that characteristic of his – to work at top speed and long hours, and always cheerful. The deceased was g[r]aduated from the local schools and completed high school in 1922. He was married to Adele Johnson. On Feb. 5, 1936 he was appointed a member of the city council and in April ran for the office. He resigned from the council three years later to go to San Luis Obispo. When there he joined the Rotary Club, his only club affiliation. Mr. Henry was born in King City Nov. 17, 1903 to Mr. and Mrs. George P. Henry. His mother passed away in 1941, his father in 1950. His survivors are his brother, Harold Henry, sister Mrs. Phyllis Gleason, both of King City, and another sister, Mrs. Joseph Bastedo of Pacific Grove. Pallbearers were Rollo Mansfield, Herb Pledger, Frank Morris, Les Hitchcock, Bert Kerns, James V. Pettitt.” END Additional Comments: “The Rustler-Herald” (King City, California).
