Had she lived a few weeks longer, Mrs. Johnson would have been 85 years of age, for she was born Nov. 25, 1866 in Denmark. The frail little lady had been in gradually failing health and it was for that reason she gave up keeping her own home, on Lynn Street, which she had occupied following the death of her husband, Peter Johnson, in 1930. Prior to that, the family home was on their farm in the Oasis district. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson and their three children, John, Christine and Adele, had come to Monterey County from the San Francisco bay area in 1900, when Mr. Johnson became foreman of a Pine Canyon summit ranch. Not long after, the Johnsons acquired the Oasis property. The deceased who was then Ann Mary Bonefeld, came to America when she was 21 years old, accompanying her brother's fiancee. They were met by him in Michigan and, following the marriage of the couple, all three remained in that state a few years. When the couple decided to leave for California, the young lady also made the trip. She stayed with old-time friends in Hayward while the other two proceeded to [the] San Joaquin Valley where Mr. Bonefeld worked for Miller & Lux, stockmen and farmers. It was in the San Francisco Bay region that Anna Bonefeld met Peter Johnson, and in 1894 they were wed. Six years later they came to this part of the state. Mrs. Johnson is survived by her three children, Mrs. Christine Forden, Mrs. Adele Henry, King City; and John Johnson, Santa Cruz. Also two grandchildren, Moreland Johnson, now in servcie [sic] at Guam, and Mrs. Beverly Hayes, King City. There are also two great-grandchildren, John and Cathy Hayes, and nieces and nephews who reside in Michigan. The funeral was conducted yesterday morning from the Ree C. Grim Chapel following services in which the Reverend J. O. Richmond officiated. Mrs. L. W. Sanders, accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Grim, sang "Abide With Me," and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." Interment took place at King City Cemetery, in the family plot. Pallbearers were Messrs. Elmer Bergerson, Jasper Mansfield, Fred Koester, Roy Gleason, F. A. Hayes and Herbert Pledger."
