Sir John Leng, M. P., who for seventeen years represented Dundee, Scotland, in Parliament, died at 10:40 o'clock this morning at the Hotel Del Monte. He was 78 years of age. In 1893, through the influence of Gladstone, who was then Premier, Queen Victoria conferred the honor of knighthood on Sir John, and he was also given the degree of LL. D. of the ancient University of St. Andrew. He was a lover of travel and had been in all parts of the world. He was on his way to Japan when taken sick here. A widow and a daughter survive him and were with him when he died.” END Additional Comments: San Francisco Call, December 13, 1906 (Thursday), Page 7, Column 6.
