Calistoga Pioneer Cemetery, Calistoga, Napa County, CA Submitted by Rebecca Garrlentini July 2005 Very nice cemetery and well maintained. Lots of shade trees, walkable dirt paths lead to burials up the hillside of the cemetery. Has a plot map and burial name list onsite. There also appears to be a whole section of the cemetery just for civil war GAR burials. Very nice and will send you a few photos of that section as well later.Limited parking and foothill blvd is a busy road, so be careful when backing out of cemetery if one decides to park in the driveway of cemetery. These photos were taken on Fathers Day June 19, 2005 by myself. There is also another cemetery in Calistoga called the "Pioneer Cemetery" and is often confused by out of towners with this one we learned from locals. Even though the sign to this one says Calistoga Pioneer Cemetery, the locals call it the "Old Pioneer Cemetery." They said that clears up the confusion pretty nicely for most folks. Calistoga-Pioneer-Entrance - Entrance Photo of the Calistoga Pioneer Cemetery Calistoga-Pioneer-SignFront - Sign of the Calistoga Pioneer Cemetery (NOTE: Front view means Sign is facing Foothill Blvd) Calistoga-Pioneer-Plaque - Plaque located in the Cemetery. Very interesting information on the plaque. This plaque Is located near the map & name burial list onsite in the cemetery to the left side of the cemetery as one walks into the cemetery. Calistoga-Pioneer-SignRear - This is a photo of the rear view of the Cemetery sign. The cemetery sign was donated by the " Native daugthers of The Golden West " # 145 organization. It appears this organization has a great deal of interest in this cemetery as upon my visit there, I saw many other items in the cemetery in which they donated. This organizations website link http://www.ndgw.org/ Calistoga-Pioneer-Locator1 - This is the Bulletin Broad as one enters the cemetery. On the Left side of this bulletin broad shows the map of the cemetery including plots and sections. See Photo # 2 for a view of that. Calistoga-Pioneer-Locator2 - This is a view of the Map of the cemetery as mentioned above. On the Right side of the bulletin broad, is has a list of names of people buried there and the location of where they are buried in the cemetery. See Photo # 3 for a view of that. Calistoga-Pioneer-Locator3 - This is a name burial/location list as mentioned above. NOTE ~ The Napa County Genealogical Society has booklets for a small donation on copies of the names burial list which is shown in this photo. Below is the link to their website which mentions that information. http://www.napanet.net/~nvgbs/publish.html Calistoga-Pioneer-View-01 - The cemetery as you can see from the Entrance photo I already sent to you has a right side to it and a left side to it, and then there are many different dirt paths on both sides of the cemetery that wide upwards to the top of the hill with even more burials at the top of the hill, with the Bulletin Broad at the base entrance of the cemetery. This photo is taken from Foothill Blvd. looking inwards to the right side of the cemetery entrance. Calistoga-Pioneer-View-Veterans - This photo is again on the right side of the cemetery once inside the cemetery. See the flag pole with flags on it? This is the start of the Veterans Section of the cemetery. I saw mostly WWI & WWII Vet tombstones starting here. Then this section merges into civil war markers are mentioned below in Photo # 3. Calistoga-Pioneer-View-Civil-War-Vet - This is again on the right side of the cemetery, still inside the cemetery in the Veterans Section of the cemetery, but here is where I started to see lots of Civil War Markers with mental GAR poles markers beside many of them in the ground next to the tombstone. This is the Civil War Section of the cemetery as mention above. Note ~ Again, dirt pathways from the bottom of the right side of the cemetery, wind themselves upwards towards the top of the hill where more burials where from the right side of the cemetery. Calistoga-Pioneer-ViewLeft-1 - This photo is standing on Foothill Blvd. looking inward to the cemetery. Calistoga-Pioneer-ViewLeft-2 - This photo is also of the Left side of the cemetery once inside the cemetery. The left side of the cemetery appeared to be more family group burials than the right side of the cemetery Calistoga-Pioneer-ViewLeft-3 - This is again another photo of the Left side of the cemetery going upwards now towards the top of the hill. Again, I started to view more family groups burials, mostly in family plots such as this one is.
