Mr. Fowler was 82 years of age. He came to California fifty years ago [1844] and settled in Napa, where he accumulated a fortune. Probably no man in Northern California was better known or more universally beloved than Henry Fowler. He was strongly identified with the early history of Napa County and was interested in many of her enterprises. He was a man of pure character and strong intellect and was widely known for his many kindly acts. Mr. Fowler is survived by a widow [Catherine (Magness) Fowler] and four daughters — Mrs. John H[olland] Mallett [Harriet Ann Fowler], wife of the vice president of the Renters' Loan and Trust Company; Mrs. E[lza] E[llsworth] Kindlespire [Tena Katherine Fowler], wife of the capitalist of this city; Mrs. Sherwood Bird [Lillian Minerva Fowler] and Mrs. [William Thomas] Dinwoody [Maude Henrietta (Fowler) Dinwoodey]. The funeral, which will take place this afternoon, will be one of the largest ever held in Napa. The interment will take place in Toulocay [sic] Cemetery [in Napa].” END Additional Comments: San Francisco Call, October 20, 1904 (Thursday), Page 6, Column 5.
