Perazzo pbperazzo@comcast.net September 17, 2004, 12:25 am “Winters Express,” Thursday, December 15, 1983 Henry Edward Samuels Henry Edward Samuels Passes away in St. Helena Henry Edward Samuels, 88, died December 6 at his residence in St. Helena after a short illness. Mr. Samuels was born Sept. 10, 1895, in Monticello and was raised there. He went to school on Blue Mountain and joined the U.S. Army in 1917. He served in the 23rd Engineers, primarily in France, and after the war served in the Occupational Forces in France. He was discharged in 1919 and returned to Monticello. He married in Napa July 20, 1920, and continued to reside in Monticello and on a ranch in the valley. In 1955, the family moved to St. Helena and he retired at that time. He was a member of the Veterans of World War I, American Legion Post 199 of Napa, a former member of the Napa County Agricultural Board, a former member of the Monticello Cemetery Association and a member of the Berryessa Old Timers. Mr. Samuels is survived by his wife, Letha, of St. Helena; two daughters, Florence Mathison of Napa and Barbara White of Pope Valley; a brother, Alvin of Vacaville; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held on December 9, in the chapel of Richard Pierce Funeral Service, 1660 Silverado Trail, with the Rev. William McCord and members of the Veterans of World War I officiating.
