Napa Daily Journal, April 3, 1874 
"The Late Thos. H. Magness.

The funeral of the late Thomas H. Magness was largely attended yesterday.  
Deceased was a native of The Hermitage, Tennessee, and was 74 years of age last 
Christmas.  He came to California in 1853, lived awhile at San Francisco, then 
at Calistoga, and for the last six years at Rutherford.  He has enjoyed 
excellent health, and did not look his age.  Hair untouched and vigorous of 
limb, he was good for apparently another score of years, but that fatal 
complaint, pneumonial [sic] seized upon him and carried him away.  He leaves no 
widow, but a family of six children - four girls and two boys, to mourn his 
loss.  One of the daughters is the wife of our fellow citizen Henry Fowler, 
Esq.  One of the sons is in Merced; the balance of the family remain at the 
paternal home at Rutherford." END

Additional Comments:
Napa Daily Journal (Napa County, California).  April 3, 1874 (Friday).  Thomas 
Harrin Magness married Cassandra Mussett.  He was born December 25, 1799 in 
Nashville.
