At Rest
The Republican says “The funeral of the late R. P. Ferguson, which took place in
Truckee last Sunday afternoon, was one of the largest and best attended which
has taken place in this town for many months past.  The deceased was a member of
Summit Lodge No. 54, Knights of Pythias, and of Truckee Lodge, No. 200, F &
A.M., both of which organizations turned out in a body to pay the last and
tribute of respect to their departed brother.  The body of the deceased was
taken to the Masonic Hall on being brought up from Camp 24 where it was
recovered from the river, and was lying in state at that place from Friday
evening till Sunday afternoon.  The deceased was buried under the auspices of
the Masonic order which took charge of the remains as soon as brought here.  The
services were held in the Masonic Hall, and consisted of the beautiful and
impressive burial ceremonies of this order.  After the ceremonies at the hall
were completed the procession formed and under the escort of the Knights of
Pythias proceeded to the burial ground where the last rites of a deceased Mason
were performed by the members of the order.  As there was a drenching rain
prevailing at the time the funeral was not as large as it would have been had
the weather been fair.  As it was the large number in attendance proved the high
esteem in which the deceased was held by those of his friends and neighbors who
knew him best.
