Blackwell, Joan 
Born January 9, 1921 in Bolton, England and passed away peacefully in her home 
on December 17, 2004 in Laguna Woods, California. She was preceded in death by 
her son, Kevin Blackwell and her husband Raymond L. Blackwell. She is survived 
by her children, Christopher Blackwell, Linda Jantz, Susan Grover, and Jill 
Hoel; eleven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. A Memorial service 
will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. at O'Connor 
Mortuary 25301 Alicia Pkwy., Laguna Hills, CA. Private interment will be at 
Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations in 
her memory may be made to Children's Hospital Los Angeles, Disabled American 
Veterans, or the American Cancer Society.

Joan Catherall was born in Bolton, England on January 9, 1921 to Ralph 
Catherall (b: June 30, 1891 in Bolton, England, d: November 29, 1954 in 
Victoria, Canada) and Susannah Pratt (b: April 24, 1891 in Bolton, England d: 
April 1967 in Sutton-On-Sea, England). She had two younger siblings: Ivor 
Kevin Catherall and Vera Catherall Clements). Joan married an American 
serviceman (Army Airforce) named Raymond Leon Blackwell on December 18, 1943 
and she came to the USA in a convoy in 1945 when all the U-boats were in the 
Atlantic. After living in Texas and Oklahoma the couple finally settled in 
Southern California, where they raised 5 children: Christopher Ray Blackwell 
(Birthdate: November 17, 1945), Kevin Lee Blackwell (Birthdate: Jun. 16, 1954, 
Died Oct. 17, 1996), Linda Jo Blackwell (also White) Jantz (Birthdate: July 
25, 1951), Susan Elizabeth Blackwell (also Hobbs) Grover (Birthdate: October 
28, 1952), and Jill Marie Blackwell Hoel (Birthdate: February 9, 1963). They 
resided in El Monte, CA for many years. After Raymond's death on January 18, 
1999, Joan moved to Laguna Woods, CA (Orange County) in 2000. Joan died 
peacefully in her sleep on Friday, December 17, 2004 at her home in Laguna 
Woods, CA (estimated time 4:30 am). A memorial service celebrating her life 
was done on December 22, 2004 at O'Connor Mortuary, with the service done by 
Fr. John H. Taylor of St. John's Episcopal Church. Interment followed later 
that afternoon. She is buried with Raymond in Riverside National Cemetery, in 
Riverside, CA.
