Daughter of Rupert Raymond Ridgeway, Sr. and Sammie Ora (Easley) Ridgeway, as their second child, she was born 15 Oct 1932, in Covina, Los Angeles, California. Granddaughter of James Fr Frank Ridgeway and Maud Elizabeth (Martin) Ridgeway; George Woodson Easley and Della Jeanette (Whitton) Easley. She was a graduate of Whittier High School's class of 1950, Whittier, California. She was an active member of Job's Daughters and a past Honored Queen. As a young woman she traveled to Yellowstone National Park where she worked the summer of 1952 as a cabin maid. Her path would cross David Gerald Stewart, of Canada, that summer. They were married on 21 Nov 1952 and settled in Whittier, California. After several years in Whittier and two children, they moved to a rental home in Pico Rivera. Barbara worked as a part-time waitress while David worked as a home milk delivery man. In 1959 they were able to buy their first home in a small community east of Whittier called, La Habra, where they would remain while raising their four children. Barbara was a creative, loving and competent homemaker, creating a pleasant home environment, undaunted by any challenge her new home presented. With four children under the age of eight, her hands were full. As the children grew she served as a Girl Scout Leader and Girl Scout Cookie Chairman for several years. When her girls became active in Bobby Sox Softball, she volunteered to drive and run the snack truck on every Saturday game day. Not many women of the time were willing to handle such a large vehicle but, once again, she braved the unknown successfully and always with grace and style. Barbara loved to drive and would often load up the kids and go on an "adventure." She never worried about getting lost...we were just going to discover something new and interesting. She loved going to the local Corn Festival Parade and would make us all stand up and cover our hearts every time a United States flag passed our location. She new a wealth of camp songs and games which she shared with the children at every opportunity, especially on her driving adventures. During the warm summer months Barbara loved sunbathing at the beach arriving very early and staying until dusk. She would bring along home-made tuna fish sandwiches and, when Fritos arrived on the scene, corn chips, grapes and Oreo cookies. Those were wonderful days. Autumn would mean planning for Halloween. She would get an early start as she always made wonderful costumes for each child as well as for herself. She hosted many adult Halloween costume parties and was known to go as giant dice, an Asian couple, hobos, and ghoulish monsters. She and David really got into the spirit of the holiday. She outdid herself for Christmas with her Silver Tip evergreen tree that had to have the tinsel placed piece by piece on each limb, a small cardboard village nestled below. She spent hours locked away wrapping presents "just so" with beautiful bows and ribbons. She always made Christmas very special. Eventually, as her youngest children grew she became a major booster for Pop Warner Football and their cheer squad; once again applying her sewing skills to uniforms and banners. She actually sewed many of the clothing worn by the family. Her hand-made dresses were beautiful. Barbara continued to work part-time at Big Boy Restaurant in Whittier and at Cleary's Restaurant on La Habra Blvd. She then worked for Homes Savings as a bank teller which would lead to her accepting an accounting job at Beckman Instruments on Harbor Drive in La Habra. She excelled at Beckman and was promoted to Accounts Payable Department Supervisor and worked there for 30 years before retirement in 1993. After 26 years of marriage, Barbara and David divorced in 1978, and soon after she moved with her youngest daughter to Newport Beach. In 1979, she purchased a one bedroom townhome in Placentia where she enjoyed the use of the pool and the lush landscaping, she loved this home. She married Hank Greiner on 3 Dec 1982 at the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, Orange, California. Barbara and Hank enjoyed golf and travel. They lived in Fullerton, California; were members of Alta Vista Country Club where she enjoyed rounds of golf with friends and many days playing "Hand and Foot" cards with a loyal group of girlfriends. Barbara was chairman of many fundraising golf tournaments enjoying the competition and camaraderie. She enjoyed "retirement" and assisted Hank with his bookkeeping for his pool cleaning business. They celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary in December 2012.
