BORING was a native of Albany, Kentucky. He came to California and settled in Camptonville, Yuba county, and from there went to La Porte, where he engaged in mining. In March, 1870, he was appointed under-sheriff by Sheriff Yeates, and served in that capacity until March, 1874, when, having been elected sheriff, he assumed the duties of that office. He was re-elected in the fall of 1875, and served a second term. In 1878 he retired from public life, and on the twenty-third of November of that year died at Quincy, at the age of 46 years, leaving a wife and two children.
