HALLSTED.—Son of Joseph and Betsy Hallsted. This gentleman was born in Ohio, March 8, 1836. In 1855 he journeyed to California, via the Isthmus. He mined at 12-mile bar, Rich gulch, and Kingsbury's ferry until the spring of 1875, when he moved to Meadow valley and erected the residence and saloon he now owns. He was married February 14, 1865, to Miss Mary Damm, by whom he has had five children: Henry E., born January 14, 1866; Fannie, August 7, 1869; May Elizabeth, November 9, 1872; Louisa J., May 3, 1874; Asa D., March 13, 1877. He is a member of the United Workmen lodge at Quincy.
