   ASA KINNEY.—The first man who had the honor of representing Plumas county in
the assembly, after her organization, was Asa Kinney. He came over the plains in
the summer of 1853 from the state of Wisconsin, leaving his property there much
involved. He settled in Plumas, and followed mining on Poorman's creek, from
which locality he emerged and appeared in the democratic convention of 1854,
receiving the nomination for assemblyman. He was elected, and went to the state
capital in the fall of 1854. He was a candidate for speaker of the assembly, and
came within two votes of getting it. He was a live representative and an able
man. He left the assembly and went directly to Wisconsin, without returning to
Plumas, and still resides in the Badger state.
