Cart 1845 - 1926 Additional Information: Jim Cart was the first marshall of Silverton, Colorado and Rico, Colorado. His was the first recorded marriage in Silverton in 1878. His wife died in September 1880 and was buried in Alamosa. His second wife and two small children died on February 19, 1897 when they were lost in Arizona's Petrified Forest and a blizzard occured. James was a marshall, prospector, sheep rancher, and a cattle rancher. *James "Jim" Cart was born in Kentucky according to the 1880 US Census records in Rico, Ouray County, Colorado. He is living with Fannie McConnell, age 30, born in Kentucky, Emma W. McConnell, age 9, born in Colorado and Maud McConnell, age 7, born in Colorado. Both parents of the children were born in Kentucky. A search of Colorado marriage records does not find a marriage for James Cart. *A James W. Cart was found in the 1920 Census records in Pomona, Los Angeles County, California. He was born in Virginia as were his parents. He is a roomer and divorced.
