Mrs Verinda Girdner, beloved wife of Joseph Girdner, one of the earliest and best known residents of Sutter county, died very unexpectedly at the Ridge Home, in Sacramento yesterday afternoon about 1 o'clock. The lady had been suffering with a very painful disease for several months, and a few weeks ago she was brought from her home near Sutter City to Marysville and comfortably located at the New Western Hotel where she could receive closer attention from her physician. It was subsequently ascertained that her disease was of the nature to necessitate a delicate operation and for that purpose she was removed to Sacramento where the operation was performed about one week ago, and it was thought , very successfully. Her husband who had been constantly by her side during the trying ordeal returned to his home Monday evening and informed inquiring friends of her seemingly hopeful condition and when the sad news of her death arrived yesterday it was least expected and it was a severe shock to her family and friends. There is no lady in Sutter county who during her long residence there, enjoyed a larger circle of friends or was more universally esteemed than the deceased and her unexpected departure from this world will be mourned by them all. Deceased was a sister of Mr Geo E Brittan and besides a devoted husband and numerous relatives , she leaves a family of several sons and daughters, all of whom are grown - Mrs Geo Pratt, of Honcut being one of the daughters. The remains will arrive here on the 5 o'clock train this evening but the Democrat was unable to ascertain the time of the funeral for this issue.
