Gun Accident Is Fatal To Hunter
Harold Eugene Rice, 31, an employee of the American Can Company was killed late 
Saturday at Tenth and S Street by an accidental discharge of a .22 caliber 
rifle as he alighted from a car upon his return from a hunting trip.

Funeral Tomorrow
The funeral services will be held at 11 am tomorrow in the George L. Klumpp 
Chapel, Dr A Raymond Grant of the First Methodist Church will officiate and 
burial will be in the East Lawn Cemetery. Rice had been hunting near Dunnigan, 
Yolo County, with Albert Damico of 206 W Street and Joseph Latona Jr of 3913 
Thirty Sixth Street. The three stepped from the car, Rice carrying a shotgun in 
one hand and the rifle in the other. The rifle slipped from his grasp and the 
stock struck the sidewalk causing the gun to discharge sending a slug into his 
head after penetrating beneath the jaw. He died minutes later.

Native of Sacramento
Rice was born in Sacramento and attended the local schools. He had been 
employed at the can company more than eight years. His home is at 1568 Thirty 
Third Street. The survivors are his wife, Laura Jane Rice, an expectant mother; 
his parents, Porter Eugene and Marian E Rice and sister Marian Fern Rice 
of 2241 Tenth Avenue and his brother Ensign Marshall Eugene Rice of the navy.
