Mrs. Lida Bean Answers Call

Mrs. Lida Bean, familiary known to most of our Hollister people as "Grandma
Bean," passed peacefully and quietly away into eternal rest last Friday, at the
home of her son-in-law, Mr. L.C. Scammon, on Fifth street, at the advanced age
of 96 years.
Death was due to the general infirmaties of old age. Her last illness being of
only about six weeks duration. Up to the very last the old lady retained her
mental faculities to a mark degree.
As Lida Farnham deceased was born at Sandy River, Maine, September 6th, 1821.
She was married to John Bean, a Methodist minister and spent many years aiding
him in his work. Seven children were born, all of whom, as well as her husband,
have passed away before her.
Almost thirty years ago she came to Los Gatos with the family of L.C. Scammon
and twenty-three years age came to Hollister with them.
She is survived by her son-in-law, L.C. Scammon, and two grandchldren, Mrs. H.M.
Williamson and Mrs. A.W. Hinz of Pittsburg, Cal., and three great grandchildren,
Herbert and Philip Williamson and Shirley Hinz.
Grandma Bean was a dear old lovable lady, who was always trying to do good for
those around her, and her passing will leave a gloom amoung her relatives as
well as her many friends in this community, where she had lived so long.

Lida BEAN (nee FARNHAM) is buried at the Hollister I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
