MATTHEWS--In Hollister, Nov. 16, 1900, Joseph Warren Matthews,
a native of Texas, aged 58 years and 6 months.
In the death of Mr. Matthews this county loses a man noted for his square
dealing, unquestionable integrity, and genial characteristics. He was the son of
Hon. J.H. Matthews, with whom he moved to this county in 1868, and to whom his
death will be a severe blow.
The cause of his death was blood-poisoning resulting from a severe strain of one
of his knees.
He leaves a widow, four sons and three daughters.
