She was born Marie Ann Singer on July 8, 1914 in Akron, Ohio. She often told people she was a "natural born singer!" After she graduated from high school she worked for BF Goodrich. She married her husband, Frank, in 1937. Marie and Frank had one son, Lawrence (Larry) Mickunas who now lives on Whidbey Island in the state of Washington. Marie and the family moved to Lomita, Calif. They visited Big Bear often and eventually moved here. They bought and operated Hillcrest Lodge for many years, entertaining and graciously welcoming many guests. They sold the lodge and bought a mobile home in Whispering Pines. Frank passed away and years later Marie became a resident of Bear Valley Skilled Nursing Facility in 2001. Marie accomplished many wonderful things in her lifetime. She was president of the Emblem Club, she was the organist for St. Joseph's Church and the Elk's Lodge. She was an artist, painter, craftswoman, seamstress, bred and raised dashounds, and loved to garden and play golf. She loved the outdoors and was outside as much as possible. At BVCH she was president of the Resident Council for several years. Marie was always the life of the party and always interested in the lives of others. She always had so much love to give. Marie is survived by her son Larry and her daugher-in-law Gloria of Whidbey Island, Wash and her grandson, John, who is serving in the Army in Santa Barbara, and her family of employees and residents at BVCH. Marie was truly an original, one of a kind, a great gal. An uplifting memorial to celebrate Marie's life will be held Saturday, Nov. 26 in the dining room at BVCH at 10 a.m.
