Dean Nesland Big Bear Lake, San Bernardino County, CA Published in the "Big Bear Grizzly" File uploaded 6 Aug 2005 This file is part of the California Tombstone Project http://www.rootsweb.com/~cemetery/california/californ.html Dean Nesland 78, aka "The Silver Fox", passed away on Saturday, July 23, at Bear Valley Community Hospital. After several years of chronic illness, he fractured his hip on June 9 and spent 6 weeks in a Colton Hospital before returning to Big Bear and the mountain he loved. Dean was born and raised in rural North Dakota near Grand Forks. He joined the Navy and served in WWII in the Pacific. He relocated to Southern California and worked for Northrop Aircraft for 34 years as a tool coordinator and a flight mechanic. He retired to Big Bear 19 years ago. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed every minute of his time in this community. Dean is survived by his wife of 51 years, Florence, his son Brad and daughter-in-law Elizabeth, his daughter Renee and son-in-law Greg Higashi. As well as four grandchildren, Travis, Megan, Stephanie and Nicole Nesland. The memorial service will be held Saturday, July 30, at 3 p.m. at the Seventh Day Adventist Church: 349 E. North Shore Drive, Big Bear City. Refreshments will follow the service in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Bear Valley Community Hospital Auxiliary.
