Born Jan. 9, 1914, in Spokane, Wash., Gene and his wife, Nikki, celebrated 72 years of marriage. The celebration was held at Mediterranean Gardens in Yucaipa, Calif. Being a gifted singer, he sang for his beloved wife. Pop sang and performed at many events, including Civic Light Opera productions in San Bernardino. He worked for Abundant Treasures for many years and retired at the age of 85. He was a resident of San Bernardino, until moving to the mountains, to reside in Big Bear Lake, where he remained until shortly before his passing. Gene loved living every minute of his life. He cherished his family and friends, and his Lord Jesus Christ. Nothing made Pop more proud and happy than being with his family. He is survived by his childhood sweetheart, wife Nikki, daughters Sandy Norman, and her husband, Ray, of Big Bear Lake, Melinda Ryen of Roseville, Calif., son Jerry Ryen and his wife, Annalee, of Redlands, Calif. Five grandchildren, Julie Hird, Chris Norman, Todd and Darin Brown, Jasmine Underland. Five great grandchildren, Alyssa, Claire and Alex Hird, Ryen and Andrew Norman, and sisters Gladys and Myrtle, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Big Bear Lake, Calif., Dec. 27, 2005. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bobbitt Memorial Chapel, San Bernardino, Calif.
