Dick Seward Big Bear Lake, San Bernardino County, CA Published in the "Big Bear Grizzly" Wednesday, December 7, 2005 10:16 AM PST File uploaded 20 Jan 2006 This file is part of the California Tombstone Project http://www.rootsweb.com/~cemetery/california/californ.html It was with extreme sadness that we learned of the untimely passing of Dick Seward on Wednesday, Nov. 30. Dick was a BVSAR Team member for over 19 years and not only did he participate in dozens, if not hundreds of searches, but he taught our team first aid and CPR. Dick was a registered nurse, worked with a home health agency and traveled around the world with Disaster Medical Assistance Team, a branch of FEMA. Dick spent three weeks in New York City right after the dreadful 9-11 tragedy. He responded to the areas hit by the tsunamis, and more recently, spent several weeks assisting victims in New Orleans and Texas after the hurricanes. Only two weeks ago he was in Mexico volunteering his time in a free clinic. Aside from being a long time BVSAR Team member, Dick was on the Bear Mountain Ski Patrol for upward of 19 years. For the last two years he was a volunteer patrolman at June Mountain. Dick's credentials include Certified Patroller with the Association of National Ski Patrol, former paid-call firefighter with Big Bear Lake Fire Department (for five years), BVSAR medical officer, to name only a few. Dick was also an expedition climber, taught winter mountaineering and has climbed all over the world including peaks in the Himalayas. We will truly miss him and offer our sincere prayers and condolences to his wife, Silvia, and children Ricky, Jean, Eddie, Timmy, Christian, Teresa and Tony. His family has lost a devoted Dad, our community has lost a committed leader and we have lost a dear, dear friend. BEAR VALLEY SEARCH AND RESCUE Big Bear Lake
