Directions: From Julian take the 78 east for 12 miles, Right onto S-2 for approximately 
20 miles and the stage station will be on the right side. 
 
History: Vallecito Stage Staion is a Historic Landmark (# 304)1852 the house was built 
by James R. Lassater as a stopping place for those making the long journey to southern 
California, 1857 the house became a station on the San Diego-San Antonio mail route, in 
1858 the house became a stop on the Butterfield Overland Mail Route. The current building 
(built 1934) is a replica of the original.
