Dill, a native of Eastman, Mass., aged 64 years. Friends are invited to attend the funeral services at Unity Hall, on Sixth street, between B and C streets, at 2 o'clock p. m., Sunday, under the auspices of Heitzelman post No. 33, G. A. R.Interment at G. A. R. cemetery COMRADS WILL DO HIM HONOR Public Funeral of Capt. A. F. Dill On Sunday Afternoon His Eventful Career-Served His Country on Land and Sea-Fraternal Ties Many Funeral services for the late Capt. Albert F. Dill, whose death occurred Thursday about midnight, will be held at Unity Hall at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon, instead of Johnson & Connell's chapel as originally intended. Heintzelman post, No. 33, Grand Army of the Republic, will be in charge. Capt. Dill's death was due to pneumonia and heart trouble. Capt. Dill was born in Eastman, Mass., August 27, 1840. Early in his life he took to the sea having decided to make it his life work. In the years which followed he served in various positions from caben boy to captain. Army Service When the civil war broke out Capt. Dill was in command of a vessel in China. On returning home in the early part of 1862 he deemed it hisduty, and privilege ot help sustain and keep intact his country's flag. In August 1862, he enlisted as a private in Company E 43rd Massachusetts Infantry. with his regiment he participated in the battles of Kingston and Whitehall, N. C., in the latter of which he was wounded. After that he was at Little Washington and before richmond under the command of General Dix. After the battle og Gettysburg he was discharged from the service on account of the expiration of his term of service. Navy Service In November 1863, Capt. Dill was commissioned ensign in the U. S. Navy and served in the North Atlantic squadron in the Wilmington blockade and in the sounds of North Carolina untill the close of the war, participating in a number of engagements and skirmishes. One of these was on June 5, 1864, with the ram Albermarie, off Plymouth, N. C. San Diego Pilot After the war closed he returned to the merchant service in which he was engaged most of the time until his removal to San Diego in 1885, where he has since lived. Capt. dill was appionted harbor pilot April 6, 1886, which position he held until a few months ago when he resigned on account of ill health. Fraternal Connections Most of the time that Capt. Dill resided in San Diego he was a member of Heitzelman Post G.A.R. of which he was commander in 1894. In 1899 and 1890 he was commander of the California and Nevada encampment of the Grand Army. He was a member of rhe Loyal Legion of California. In the Masonic bodies he was identified with San Diego lodge No. 35, San Diego Chapter No. 61 and San Diego Commandery No. 26, having been eminant commander of the latter body a few years ago. He had also held other offices in the Masonic bodies and was past patron of the local chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. Although he was not a member of the local Odd Fellows lodges he had been prominent in the lodges of the order in the east. He was a Past Nobel Grand of Enterprise lodge of Pawtucket, R. I., and Past High Priest of the Encampment. Civil Life Capt. Dill was a member of the city board of education in San Diego from the Third ward during the first two years after the city charter became operative. Last September Capt. dill formed a co-partnership in the real estate and insurance buisness with Capt. L. D. Phillips, but on account of illness he was never able to do much work. Capt. Dill leaves a widow and three children. The eldest child is the wife of Lewis Ward of Los Angeles. formerly of this city. The other children are Bert F. Dill, aged 15 and Harold, aged 10.
