DEAD MAN FOUND BY CHILDREN AT PLAY

Boy Seeking Book Under House Makes Grewsome Discovery

CORPSE IS IDENTIFIED AS THAT OF DAN FLYNN

Believed He Was Drowned and Washed ashore While in Drunken Condition

	The badly decomposed body of an aged man was found under a 
cabin near the Jerres wharf yesterday morning. A number of children where 
playing in that neighborhood and a hoop with which one of them was playing 
rolled under the cabin. The boy went after it and stepped upon the body. He 
immediately gave the alarm and the police were notified. At first it was 
thought the remains might be those of Alexander Beveridge, but later friends 
of the man identified the body as that of Dan Flynn.
	The condition of the remains indicated that Flynn had been dead for 
several days and the head was badly mashed. For this reason it was thought 
by a number of the fishermen that his death was the result of foul play. As he 
was known to be a hard drinker and had come to many lesser accidents while 
inebriated, it is probable that he had, while under the influence of liquor, 
fallen from the wharf and washed under the cabin by the tide.
	Flynn was a veteran of the civil war and drew a pension which he spent, 
for the most part, for drink, it is said. He had lived along the water front 
for many years and was one of the best known characters along the wharves.
