Mebane Leader 
In the death of Motowir, an Indian the Kowakapi tribe, California has lost its 
oldest man. In the death certificate the age is given as one hundred and fifteen, 
but relatives believe he was at least one hundred and twenty-two.

Motowir was born in San Diego County, and served as a stableman with the United 
States cavalry when they had their brush with the Mexicans in San Gabriel Valley 
in 1845. His memory ran back to the event of more than a century ago.
