San Diego Union, February 8 & 9, 1898
SHAFFER-In this city, Feb. 7, 1898. Katie C. wife of Elmer Shaffer, aged 38 
years, a native of San Diego, Cal.
	Friends are invited to attend the funeral services at St. Joseph’s 
church at 9 a.m. today.

	The Funeral of Mrs. Katie Couts Shaffer took place yesterday morning at 
9 o’clock at St. Joseph’s church where high mass was celebrated. A large number 
of friends of the family were present, and there were many floral tributes. The 
pall bearers were A.F. Cornell, W.E. Budlong, F.D. Murtha, J.H. Cregan, O.C. 
Drauga and E. Frandzen. Interment was at the Catholic cemetery.
