Stedman Dies After Having Resided Here Since 1872 In the death of Mrs. Mary A. Stedman, which occurred Sunday, February 16, at her home, 842 Union street, in this city, San Diego looses one of her oldest and most beloved pioneers. Mrs. Stedman was a native of Bradford, Vermont, and was born May 1, 1839. In 1862 she was married to Robert Stedman at Sherbrooke, Canada. After residing in Canada they removed to Lowell, Mass. until 1870, when they came to California. On November 2, 1872 they arrived in San Diego, and have resided here ever since. Besides a husband, Mrs. Stedman leaves a son. Charles L. Stedman of this city and one Grandson, Alvin Stedman. Several years ago she buried a son, who died at four years of age. At the time of her death Mrs. Stedman was president of the Ladies Pioneer society and for several years was secretary of that society, and was a most valued member, being an earnest worker in every branch of it, and her place can never be filled; but there will always be a vacant chair and a loving memory in all the hearts of the pioneers of a good life nobly lead. She was also past president of the Woman’s Relief corps, and had done much good work for that order. She was a devoted wife and mother and her bereaved ones have the heartfelt sympathy of all in this great sorrow. ************************************************************************ GRAVESTONE PHOTO: http://www.rootsweb.com/~cemetery/california/sandiego.html File at: http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/ca/sandiego/obits/s/stedman2830gob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/cafiles/ File size: 2.6 Kb
