Hamilton John E. Mullally was the third of six children of Irish immigrants John and Ellen Mullally, who arrived in New York in 1867, and later joined a cousin of John in San Francisco. John obtained a job on the cable cars. His son, John E., was a labor activist, being a delegate to the Union Labor convention of 1907. He was elected to the 30th Assembly seat of the California state legislature in 1910 as a Republican, and also owned Mullally's Saloon at the corner of Eighth Street and Minna Street, in the district and across the street from the home he shared with his wife May (married circa 1905, she was the daughter of Portuguese immigrants). On January 14, 1912, while he was planning to run for a State Senate seat in the election later that year, he was shot and killed during a hold up of his saloon. Additional Comments: His oldest sister, Ellen, was born in New York. All the other children were born in San Francisco.
