RICHARDS, John Evan: Associate Justice Supreme Court of California and former
Judge of the Superior Court of Santa Clara county; son of Rubard Evan and Mary
Hamilton Richards. Born, San Jose, July 7th, 1856. Graduated from University of
the Pacific in 1877 with the B. A. degree. Received the M. A. degree in 1914 and
in 1924 the LL. D. degree from his alma mater: graduate of the University of
Michigan, class of 1879, with the LL. B. degree. Was elected judge of the
Superior Court of Santa Clara county in 1907, remaining on the bench of that
court until 1913 when he was made Justice of the District Court of Appeal, where
he remained until February, 1924 when his appointment as Associate Justice of
the Supreme Court of California became effective. He is a member of the Native
Sons of the Golden West, Masons, Independent Order of Red Men, the Phi Kappa Psi
and Alpha Delta Phi fraternities. Married Mary Wallace, November 23rd, 1881.
