Gary Letter from Alice JIRASEK to Paul LERNER dated Nov 5, 1929 San Mateo, Calif. Nov. 5, 1929 Dear Paul, Well, here is the letter I didn't promise to write. I thought I'd better apologize for being so hasty over the telephone tonight but I really couldn't help it. In the first place, I was so happy that the thought of missing my train nearly made me starve to death. (I'm always doing that.) In the second place, the girls were yelling in my ears to hurry up so that naturally made me rather jumpy and ect. (You know what I mean because you heard me.) I know you'll forgive me for acting as I did but I know my excuses are passable. (I guess I'm learning to make excuses from you. Eh What?) Well, before I forget to write it. (That's what you always say.) (I'm getting to be a regular copy cat. Copying everything from you.) Tell Natalie that this sweater belongs to Alfred so she should take extra good care of it. I wouldn't care what happened to it if it were mine but seeing that the sweater has changed hands, well caution must be taken with it. I know Natalie will take care of it but I merely wrote the above few lines to fill up this page so pay as little attention to it as possible. Gee, here I'm on page three already and damn if I know how I got there. (Excuse my French but I get out of practice every once in a while.) Gee, I guess I'll have to close now as it's bed-time and you know I absolutely cannot afford to lose any sleep. Well, closing for this time (Yes there's going to be another time soon) I remain As Ever Alice Over next page Dear Paul, Do not let Natalie or Aunt Theresa wash or clean the sweater as there is a special way to clean the sweater. Don't let them clean a spot if it gets spotted. Gertrude (This one is not mailed, outside of envelope addressed: Mr. Paul LERNER. gb)
