And, further, that I am a naturalized citizen of the United States, as by the Certificate of the Clerk of the District Court of the Twelfth Judicial District of the State of California, dated 1 Sept 1857 will appear. My wife Eva Lockbaum, aged 28 years, will accompany me abroad. And I further do solemnly swear that I will support, protect and defend the Constitution and Government of the United States against all enemies whether domestic or foreign; and that I will bear true faith, allegiance and loyalty to the same, any Ordinance, Resolution or Law of any State Convention or Legislature to the contrary notwithstanding. And further, that I do this with a full determination, pledge and purpose, without any mental reservation or evasion whatsoever. And further, that I will well and faithfully perform all the duties which may be required of me by Law; So help me God! Sworn and subscribed, this Seventh day of December 1861, before me } Z. Duff State of New York City and County of New York } SS Be it Known, that I Zephaniah Platt, a Notary Public in and for the State of New York, duly commissioned and sworn, dwelling in the City of New York, do Hereby Certify that the persons named in and subscribed to the foregoing Affidavits, appeared before me, and being duly sworn, each subscribed the declaration made by him respectively; which I deem sufficient proof of the Citizenship and Loyalty of Matthias Lockbaum who subscribed one of said Affidavits including the Oath of Allegiance. Platt Additional Comments: **Note - Applicant signs his name Mathias Lochbaum which is the way it is normally spelled in other records, not Matthias Lockbaum as written in the document. Mathias married Eva Fink about 1860 most likely in New York. They are living in San Francisco by 1865. He dies there in 1871; Eva passes away on February 14, 1929 in Alameda Co., California.
