Passenger lists to and from Oregon, Sacramento, Stockton and some other mining areas. Passengers to and from three ports of Mexico, Peru, Chile, Honolulu, and ships going from the East Coast and England around the Horn of South America. People arriving at hotels in San Francisco Some marriages in San Francisco, including early 1849, that are not in the Civil Registration of San Francisco Marriages and deaths in Honolulu; various mining towns; Oregon, Monterey, Stockton, Sacramento, some in San Diego and Los Angeles Listings of over 4,000 letters held over three months by the San Francisco Postmaster for people going to San Francisco and probably going further in the West after arriving there. Various persons in San Francisco in trouble with the courts, civil lawsuits, elected officials, lists of all policemen, firemen, state legislators, passengers who thanked the Captain of their ships and crew for great care they had; persons attending various club functions in San Francisco and Sacramento. Court juries and grand juries Most persons included on passenger lists are named by initials only. The policy is that all men are men unless there is a Mrs. or Miss before their name or Lady after the name, designating the wife. January 4, 1849 Publishers: Edward Gilbert, Edward C. Signed James Alex. Forbes, British Vice Consul of California Notice appointing Chester S. Lyman, and Jacob R. Snyder surveyors of land for California. Signed by R. B. Mason, Colonel 1st Dragoons of California. Notice that Dr. A. J. Ward, MD, will establish his practice at Sutters Fort. Names of individuals who ran for town council at the election are: Stephen C. Bromley, of New York, Attorney of the United States John Adair of Kentucky, Collector for Oregon Territory At a meeting of the town Council, the following were present: T. M. Leavenworth, Alcalde, C. V. Gillespie; M. L. Callender, Council Clerk; J. Howard Ackerman Death: In the city, 1848, Dec. 24, Emile Bertrand was found dead on the beach, was a discharged volunteer of 1st New York Regt, U.S. Army. He was of Germany. The inquest determined he was murdered by persons unknown. A meeting was called in the city by Judges -- W.D.M. Howard; W. H. Davis and Hopeful Toler. signed by T. Edwin Bryant, late alcalade of California wrote a book - "What I saw in California" a journal of a tour of the Emigrant Route and the South Pass of the Rocky Mountains across the continent of the Untied States , the Great Desert basin and thru California in 1846-47.
