Loving wife of John Attard; loving mother of Michael Attard and wife Stefania Attard, Rosemarie Smith and husband, Dave Smith, Joanne Helvig and husband, Jeff Helvig and Alex Attard; loving grandmother of Alexis and Carmen Rich and Anna Smith, Siena and Julia Attard and Spencer and Samantha Helvig; loving daughter of the late Georgina and Amable Ricca; beloved sister of Nina Smith and the late Charlie Smith and loving aunt to Victor, Marianne and Joe Smith and their families; loving sister of Amable and Charlie Ricca. Carol was loved dearly by both family and friends and her friends at Macy's S.F. where she worked for 30 yrs. Born in Malta, Carol came to the U.S. in search of a new life. She found it, along with her husband John and together they made their family and home in S.F. Carol was energetic, caring, hardworking, a wonderful mother and a fantastic cook. Carol always had a listening ear, a great sense of humor and a caring and fun-loving spirit that she shared with all. We would like to give special thanks to Dr. Kathleen Grant and the wonderful staff at CPMC for their excellent care. Carol will be greatly missed by family and friends. We will forever be grateful to Carol for her loving and caring ways. Mom, you are our hero, your memory is a blessing to us and we will love you forever. Friends may visit after 4 PM Wednesday and are invited to attend the Vigil Service Wednesday 7 PM and the Funeral Thursday 10:30 AM from the chapels of VALENTE MARINI PERATA & CO., 4840 Mission St., S.F. then to St. Elizabeth Church where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM. Committal to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Elizabeth's School. Published in the San Francisco Chronicle on 10/17/2006.
