A big electric car of the Eddy street line was coming to its utmost capacity,many standing on the platforms. At Eighth avenue the track turns into Clement street. Just before reaching this curve there is considerable of a down grade. In coming down the grade the brakes of the car refused to work and the car acquired a fearful momentum. Just as the curve was reached the motorman succeeded in throwing on all the brakes and the car came to a stop with such suddenness that a larhe number of people were thrown off, receiving injuries.
