Hanford Morning Journal, April 9, 1929
"PIONEER OF COVERED WAGON DAYS PASSES. The many local friends of James Henry 
Farley, a resident of this city for the last thrity-five years, will regret to 
learn of his death, which occurred at the home of his son, Ernest R. Farley, in 
San Francisco at four o'clock Sunday afternoon, following an illness of some 
duration. 

Mr. Farley, who was 83 years of age, was born in Berrien Springs, Michigan, on 
January 15, 1846, and at the age of eight came across the plains with his 
parents, settling in Alvardo [Alameda?] county.  He was married in Centerville 
to Miss Sarah A. Harlan, and shortly afterward located in Visalia, where he 
entered into the abstract business.  Some thrity-five years ago he came to this 
city and opened the Hanford Abstract Company, which he operated until a year 
ago, when he retired from business.  He was a charter member of the Willow 
Camp, W.O.W., 163, of this city.

He is survived by one son, Ernest R. Farley, of San Francisco, a daughter, Mrs. 
Ada Hornbeak of Porterville, two grandsons, a grand-daughter and a brother, 
Newton Farley, of San Francisco. His wife and two other sons preceded him in 
death.

The remains arrived in this city yesterday and funeral services will be held 
from the chapel of Lewis, Madison, and Russell tomorrow afternoon at half past 
one.  Interment will be made in the family plot in Visalia cemetery."

column 2.  James Henry Farley was the son of Ebenezer Farley and Eliza Minerva 
(Smith) Farley.  He married Sarah Ann Harlan at Centerville in Alameda County, 
California on December 16, 1868.
