She was born to James Nathaniel Barton who was a native of Walker County Alabama. James is found in the 1880 Sebastion County Arkansas Census with a wife named Margaret who is also of Alabama. With no census between 1880 and 1900 it is hard to discern what occured. My grandmother, Lola Luella (Mitchell) Reed and her husband Lewis Marion Reed once told me about Ada Luella (Barton) Mitchell and her parents who are James N Barton and Missouri Gregory. They told me that James Barton had married Missouri Gregory and died in the 1920s and were buried in Lambdin, Lincoln County Oklahoma. I learned that James N. Bartons sister (Mary Ann Barton-Turner) lived in Howell and that Missouri Gregory was from there. I checked and learned a James Barlow married a Missouri Gregory there on July 27, 1884. Julia and her sisters; Ada L, Zona Belle and Birtha May were all born after 1884 so they must be from the marriage of James and Missouri. There are two girls that appear to be from James and Margaret; Sarah Jane (Barton) Nelson and Mary E. Barton. Nothing is known of what happened to James and Missouri, after their marriage. The sister Sarah Jane married Thomas Neslon. Thomas and Sarah are raising Sarah's sisters in the 1900 census of Berlin, Rogermills County Oklahoma. There is a story on the Moses Barton family moving from the Redoak/Hartshorne area of Indian Territory. During the move some of the family were killed in an Indian attack. It is unknown if this fate is what happened to Missouri and James, however, when Sarah and Thomas are raising the girls, Moses Barton and his family live near Thomas and Sarah. Moses is an Uncle to the girls. If something did happen then this wouldn't correspond to the story told by Lola Reed. Julia married George Washington Boatman on September 24, 1904 in Howell County Missouri. They had two children born to them while in Howell County Missouri; Laura Easter and James Henry. They moved to Dewey County Oklahoma around 1906. Their children; Lois Bell, Delpha Mae, Kenneth Martin and Elmus were all born in Oklahoma. There were two other children; Ellen and an unamed infant that I'm not sure of the date or place of their birth and death but they died young. Around 1927 George and Julia moved their family to Old San Acacio, Costilla County Colorado. They were there through the 1930 census period and moved to California around 1936. George died in San Joaquin County California 1948 followed by Julia Ann on April 17, 1962. The California death index for Julia shows her mother's maiden name as Oakley. It is unkown why unless it is a married name rather than her mother's maiden name of Gregory. In a recent incident I was told that Julia had a sister named Laura. I have never herd of Laurabut was sent a copy of the Obituary for Laura who does mentionmy grandmother, Ada luella (Barton) Mitchell as a sister. Ada is Julia's sister therefore Laura is somehowrelated. Laura is listed in the Obit as laura Parker. I have located where she is said to have married Louis Emory Parker. I also have a photo of Louis and Laura with Julia and George. Additional Comments: Julia and her sisters lived alone most of there childhood in Oklahoma Teritory and Indian Teritory. It isn't known what occurred to their parents. Julia's sister, Sarah Jane (Mrs Tom Nelson) assisted with raisng them until she died untimely in 1900. The girls then went to Howell County Missouri where several were married and then ended up in this area of california for a while. Julia and George lied their lives out in Escalon, San Joaquin County California and are buried in the Burwood Cemetery.
