TRACK

    On Saturday, April 1st, our miler, Woodson Hawes, went to Stockton to
compete in the Y. M. C. A.'s three-mile cross city race for the "Evening Mail"
trophies.

    In a most interesting and exciting race, he captured second place, thereby
winning the beautiful sterling silver medal.

    Although disappointed that he could not win first place he was in a measure
compensated by defeating the Stockton High man who came in for a close third place.

    This was one of the most interesting features of the race for the Stockton
High man and Woodson went "neck and neck," until the very end of the race, when
Lodi's man, by putting forth the best of his remaining strength, crossed the
line a few seconds ahead of his opponent.

    The race was well conducted.
